Australian Sustainable Home | The Strange Sleeping Pods of Drew House

Australian drew house Sustainable homes are nothing new nowadays. In fact, it's more unusual now to find an architect firm that doesn't care about the environment…or at least doesn't pretend to. Many companies are showing that just because a home is environmentally-friendly doesn't mean it can't fall into the realm of luxury real estate. The Drew House of Queensland, Australia is pretty close to the Great Barrier Reef, which may be why the dwelling looks like a strange research facility from the outside. The home was built as a holiday retreat for Marian Drew, an Australian photographer, and her brother, meant to resemble their childhood camping memories. Drew House is made up of pod-like structures, one a long metal tube and the others box-like rooms, that connect to create the living quarters. According to the architects, Simon Laws of Anthill Constructions, the living and sleeping areas of the home were made off-site in Brisbane, transported over to the location afterwards. The large deck area outside is meant to be an outdoor living and dining area, with a prefabricated parabolic roofed awning stretching over it. What makes it so eco-friendly? The architect firm assure that the design and shape of the home is energy efficient and simple materials were used in the construction as much as possible, like natural oiled Australian wood. There are also rainwater tanks, solar hot water and electrical panels, and a community water recycling system for everything but drinking and bathing.

Head of Apple Design, Sir Jonathan Ive, Buys $17 Million Home in San Francisco

sir jonathan ive house With people practically salivating over the new Apple iPhone 5's (and even paying up to $$3,700 for smuggled models), it's really no surprise that the electronics company has some pretty wealthy employees. Thought of as one of the world's most brilliant designing minds and with an estimated fortune of $130 million, Sir Jonathan Ive is the company's head designer and has been in that position since 1996, according to Elite Choice. What is he doing with his pools of cash? Buying luxury real estate in San Francisco, of course. Ive is the new owner of a $17 million dollar home in San Francisco's exclusive Gold Coast area at 2808 Broadway Street. Originally built in 1927, the house was designed by Willis Polk & Company, and was priced on the market for $25 previously. The detailed brick exterior definitely reflects its 1920's building date, making it look like something out of a movie. With 7,274 square feet of space to roam around in and great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island, Ive should have plenty of inspiration to come up with his next genius design idea. He'll even be living next to some famous names, like actor Nicholas Cage and Peter Thiel, the founder of PayPal.

Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox Hunt For Vacation Home in Cabo

cabo san lucas "Friends" may have seen it's end in 2005, but that doesn't mean the cast split up. Co-stars Jennifer Anniston and Courteney Cox have maintained their close status in their real lives, always seen spending time together and supporting one another through break-ups and career changes. Apparently, they even headed to Cabo San Lucas, known for its luxury real estate, to find themselves the perfect vacation home. Many second homes in the area can run from $500K to well over $3 million, but considering the two actresses income from "Friends" alone, they can definitely handle the price tag. The women have already short-listed a few luxury homes on the market so it's only a matter of time before they find the perfect one. They're probably looking for something roomy, gated, and featuring on-site security to keep those paparazzi pests at bay. Considering Anniston's upcoming nuptials to actor Justin Theroux, the house is definitely going to have to be big enough for three.

The Most Expensive Neighborhoods in America

butler
By: Mila Pantovichcomments 1 | 2012
Many of us live in average neighborhoods where visiting your neighbor for a cup of sugar is pretty normal, whereas others live in areas where $10 million dollar homes are the norm and the personal chef's wouldn't dare run out of sugar. While many took a direct hit when the economy tanked, luxury real estate in the country's most sought-after neighborhoods barely noticed a thing.

According to Forbes, Coldwell Banker Previews International recently released a report that details the priciest areas to live in America, places where people willingly drop over $10 million for a home. Beverly Hills 90210 is on the list with 56 properties that feature steep price tags, as of June. Included is the $95 million Beverly House and the $58 million Crescent Palace from celebrity developer Mohamed Hadid.

The price tags aren't the shocking part, anyone can put their home on the market for some absurd price, the surprising bit is that many of these homes are actually selling. 21 listings, costing $10 million or more, sold in the Beverly Hills area this past year. One of them was the Wehba Mansion on Sunset Boulevard that brought in $34.5 million in May and another sold by Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi was bought for $37 million by Ryan Seacrest.

$47 Million Price For Beijing's Most Expensive Luxury Villas

thaihot mansion China may not have emperors anymore but you can certainly still live like one thanks to the country's luxury real estate development, The ThaiHot Mansion and Courtyards. ThaiHot Mansion, overseen by The Beijing Taihe Real Estate Development Co., is considered to be the most expensive you can find in China, with the cheapest apartment available priced at $4.7 million. If you're wondering what you get with the steep price tag, you basically get treated like a ruler as you walk on gold, black marble floors, the help bowing to you as you pass by. If you're worried that one day the staff will decided to rise up against you, there's even a secret bullet-proof nook between bookshelves that can keep you safe. “In China now there’s no emperor, but living in such residences, there’s a feeling of being emperors and nobles,” says Shen Linan, assistant to the president of the Taihe Group.
