Rihanna was recently spotted there in a teeny tiny bikini; Steven Spielberg and Gwyneth Paltrow have made it a favorite destination for A-list family getaways; and everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Ellen DeGeneres and Eva Mendes have gone on luxurious vacations there. Designers Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana even own luxury villas there.

Portofino, a former fishing village turned celebrity hotspot on the Italian Riveria, was made a legend in the 1950s and ‘60s when the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Ingrid Bergman, Ernest Hemingway, Frank Sinatra and Brigitte Bardot made it into a playground for the rich and famous. Now Christie’s International Real Estate affiliate Broker Immobiliare has listed the posh resort’s most prestigious property for about $35 million.

The historic estate overlooking the famed Gulf of Paraggi was built in the early 1900s and completely renovated into the epitome of modern luxury in 2005. With three levels, plus a finished cellar, the coveted villa boasts incredible panoramic ocean views from all angles.

The main villa offers 5,000 square feet of elegant living space; accommodations for guests and a caretaker’s cottage add about another 3,800 square feet, encompassing 7 bedrooms and 8 baths in all. In addition there is nearly 4,600 square feet of terraces and outdoor entertaining space for the owner’s enjoyment. Set on nearly nearly 2.5 acres landscaped in the lush Ligurian style, the property features terraced gardens, a swimming pool and an impressive grove of some 200 olive trees.
