Charter the Maltese Falcon
Yacht Charters: The Maltese Falcon is
more than just the classic mystery movie of 1941,
which was based on the 1929 novel of the same name
written by Dashiell Hammett, starring Humphrey Bogart
and Mary Astor and directed by John Huston. Today's
Maltese Faction is an 88-meter clipper yacht that
sails at a maximum speed of nearly 20 knots. Its
cruising speed is 15 knots. The ship with the famous
moniker can be chartered in the Mediterranean through
CharterWorld.com for approximately $340,000 per week.
The massive sailing yacht has six cabins and
comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests plus a crew
of four. It is powered by two Deutz 1,800-horsepower
engines, which turn at only 1,800 RPM. Yachting World
magazine reported that the sound from the
air-conditioner in the aft cabins is actually louder
than the sound emitted from the purring twin engines.
The Maltese Falcon's design and construction is a
collaborative effort between Perini Navi, Ken
Freivokh, and Dijkstra & Partners. Ken Freivokh did
the ship's interior design.
The Maltese Falcon offers a full array of luxury
amenities that include: two Tenders & Toys 32-foot
Pascoe RIBs; four Laser sailing boats; one Castold
14-foot Jet tender; six full sets of diving gear;
water skis; and snorkeling gear. There also is a full
gym and a Stairmaster machine. Additionally there is
A/V equipment and 50-inch plasma TVs in the main salon
and the master suite. The four guest suites have
42-inch plasma TVs, and the cabin on the upper deck
has a 32-inch plasma-screen TV. There is a Bang &
Olufsen surround-sound stereo throughout the vessel
and wireless Internet service and GSM cellular phones
on board.
Whereas it took three attempts to turn Dashiell
Hammett's brilliant mystery novel into an excellent
film, as there were two previously made films based on
the same book prior to the John Huston-directed movie,
the Maltese Falcon clipper yacht is a one-of-a-kind
floating masterpiece.
