Wally Luxury Yachts

December 16, 2008

Luxury Yachts: For yacht owners, no yacht is better than a luxurious Wally.

The 118 Wallypower is a perfect blend of technology and design culminating in the superyacht experience with a well-designed vertical bow, air inlets and deck superstructure.

With design ruling over the technologically advanced functions of the yacht, the silhouette is a modern marvel of clean lines. The luxurious yacht has living accommodations on three levels: the aft cockpit and salon on one level, with the dining, navigation/steering area and forward social cockpit on another while guest, crew and engine room are on another.

To maintain an emphasis on appearance, all equipment and technology is hidden on deck. The guest area is entirely separate from the main stateroom and there are two guest suites, with their own bathrooms. The engine room is contained to keep things quiet and the galley is easily accessible.

The 118 Wallypower has given rise to the newest Wally, 64 WallyPower. The signature metallic blue cuts an elegant line on the water and it is as comfortable as it is sleek and fast. The new Wally is merging of the smaller and larger yachts, with large livable interiors and sleek lines. The yacht is available in a variety of interior configurations and has all the luxurious accoutrements yachters have come to expect of Wally. Like other Wally yachts, the new Wally combines the signature emphasis on form, while keeping the amazing functions carefully hidden.

With the style and top of the line features, the new Wally is sure to find fans.

Tahoe Luxury Yacht Balances Style With Modern Technology

October 21, 2008   |   Contributor: S Scowden

Luxury Yachts: Walk down to the end of the Tahoe Keys Marina on South Lake Tahoe and docked at the last slip, you'll find a boat unlike any other on the Lake.

The Sierra Rose, which just celebrated its third year on Tahoe, is a three-story luxury, motor yacht featuring three bedrooms (two master suites, as well as crews quarters), a gourmet galley with a formal dining area and salon, and a spacious upper deck that doubles as a helicopter pad with hydraulic, motorized handrails.

Inspiration for the boat came from one of Tahoe's legendary fixtures: the Tahoe Queen, a paddle wheel, riverboat style vessel that operates tours and dinner cruises around the famous lake.

Owner and creator Mike Stewart explains.

"My idea was to recreate that classic style of river boat, but on a smaller scale, with the personal comforts of a yacht."

Small isn't a word one would use to describe the yacht. At 86 feet long, and offering nearly 2500 square feet of indoor space and a 1200 square foot, outdoor entertainment space, the Sierra Rose is the largest, private vessel on Lake Tahoe.

Stewart commissioned the hull and Volvo Penta engines from Finney Boat Works, in Couer d'Alene, Idaho. They were shipped to Reno, Nevada, where over the course of several months, Stewart and a team of architects, engineers, plumbers, welders, electricians, designers and audio/visual experts, built the boat's three main levels.

The first level features two master suites as well as crew's quarters. The suites each have their own spacious marble bathroom, which both connect to a private, outdoor Jacuzzi. The main level also features a motorized, hydraulic lift at the stern, for launching and storing the Golden Bear, a 20-foot, mahogany wood, Grand-Craft sport boat.

The second level houses the gourmet galley, formal dining area with monogrammed Wedgewood China and Waterford Crystal, plus a salon with leather furniture, a 42" flatscreen HDTV, and 5-disk DVD player. Finally, the top level includes the pilot's house, and a deck that also serves as a helicopter pad, complete with hydraulic, motorized handrails.

With subtle curved ceiling arches, African mahogany floors and earth tone color palette, the boat is both comfortable and elegant. Its design complements the natural beauty of Tahoe, and gives it a look quite different from so many of today's yachts.

"People are naturally curious, and will sometimes circle around a few times to get a closer look." But despite the occasional curious onlooker, the most attention the Sierra Rose has received in its three years on the Lake was the day it arrived.

Normally, the trip from Reno to Tahoe Keys would take about ninety minutes. However, since this caravan of oversized loads would require a police escort (17 vehicles in all, covering 5 different jurisdictions) traveling at night on quieter roads proved the least disruptive to traffic and resources. The trip had its share of stress. Stewart and his crew arrived at the California border two hours later than scheduled.

Stewart remembers the moment with a chuckle.

"The CHP was not happy with us. They checked and re-checked every permit."

Nine hours later, after negotiating a few stray tree branches, and appeasing some anxious neighbors, the Sierra Rose arrived at Tahoe Keys, where its components were merged and the yacht launched.

Talk about a dramatic entrance into society.

The Sierra Rose has not been Stewart's only grand accomplishment. His other projects include a house on Hawaii's big island that runs completely on solar power, and a custom carved luxury log cabin home currently being built in Tahoe City. He will live in neither home.

Stewart explains that he's drawn to the process of creating special properties, but not really collecting them. Which explains why after three years in the water, the Sierra Rose is for sale.

The yacht was recently put on the auction block by marketing firm J.P. King. The event drew significant interest, but when the dust settled, the highest bid was ultimately declined by Stewart.

"I am ready to sell, but not desperate either. The right buyer is out there. In the meantime, we'll just keep enjoying it."

Information about the Sierra Rose can be found at www.sierraroseyacht.com.

World's Biggest Catamaran

February 18, 2009   |   Contributor: Mary Allen

Luxury Catamaran: Often times there is truth behind the phrase, "Bigger isn't always better," however this is not the case for Sunreef Yacht's latest addition to the world of Super Yachts. Based out of Gdansk, Poland, this luxury yacht builder is introducing the world's biggest luxury catamaran to date.

Named the One Fifty, this 150-foot vessel comes as the company's response to continuing demand for a combination of luxury, performance and size. "Over the years we've seen an increasing interest in bigger luxury cats and have been expanding our range incrementally to accommodate that" says Nicolas Lapp, Sunreef's Vice-President, "The One Fifty is now a quantum leap reflecting our customers inquiries."

The One Fifty is not just any super boat sweeping its presence through the waters, but is a meticulously designed vessel, modern in style. With sleek lines both internally and externally, the topside of the yacht blends into the curve of the hull. Not only does this make for a pleasing aesthetic, but also in keeping with the times it allows for a flat surface to accommodate solar panels. Stylish and smooth, the One Fifty also offers a cheaper source of energy with it's green alternative.

The main deck on the One Fifty is spacious and spreads itself over two levels, which spans the entire beam, approximately 17 meters. The large deck leads up to an even larger flybridge and a navigation station.

As if the size and design aren't unique enough, the One Fifty offers a break in tradition with its sun-roofed cockpit. Guests aboard the One Fifty can enjoy the sun-drenched cockpit by way of sun beds, a dining table set for twelve or informal cushioned armchairs.

The main deck and the starboard hull house accommodations for twelve guests, split between six double staterooms. In keeping with traditional design, crew quarters for eight are found in the opposite hull. A special lift provides connection between the upper deck and the crew quarters and storage rooms below.

Sunreef Yacht's wants their guests to feel at home on the seas and therefore designed the One Fifty with creature comforts in mind. A large salon with panoramic views boasts a lounge style bar and dining room and is decorated to emphasize openness and natural light and of course has an 80 inch flat screen mounted on its wall.

FMYP P967: 405-foot Gigayacht for $233 Million

September 25, 2008   |   Contributor: James Rothaar

Luxury Yachts: Think big, plan ahead and land this 405-foot motor yacht by FMYP. Scheduled for a 2009 launch, the P967 motor yacht has 14 cabins, 24 heads and sleeps 32 comfortably. The Frank Muldur-designed lavish watercraft features a steel hull and an aluminum deck. Powered by a 9,780-horsepower 3618 Caterpillar engine, she cruises at 16 knots and maxes out at 21 knots or 24.2 mph. The vessel is painted blue and has a beam of nearly 60 feet, allowing plenty of space for walking from aft to fore.

The triple-deck gigayacht is categorized as a fly bridge with a cockpit. The interior rivals a luxury cruise ship with its atrium, indoor swimming pool and beach floor, dining areas, decks, cabin interiors, and common areas. The lower deck leads out to a second swimming pool off the rear. The grandiose VIP stateroom holds up well compared to any accommodations held to the highest standards-whether it be by land or by sea.

This cavernous luxury-latent gigayacht is being brokered by 4Yacht of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and is priced at approximately $233,045,000 or 159,500,000 euros. The FMYP P967 is just one of many megayachts offered for sale at www.4yacht.com

DSe Hybrid 12m: First Zero Emissions Yacht in America

September 24, 2008   |   Contributor: James Rothaar

Eco-friendly Yachts: The first production motor yacht with zero emissions will be unveiled at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show at the end of October. The ship, the Island Pilot DSe Hybrid 12m, is powered by diesel fuel, solar energy, and electric power. The vessel is 12 meters long (39.5 feet) and can cruise at 13 knots on diesel fuel and 7 knots when in zero-emissions mode. A zero-emissions level is achieved with a 6 kW solar array and a 20 kWh battery bank. The yacht is the first-ever production motor yacht with zero emissions in America, according to Reuben Trane, president of Island Pilot, LLC.

"There are so many reasons this boat makes sense in today's environment," said Mr. Trane. "At a time with record high oil prices, we are bringing to market a product that will dramatically reduce the most visible expense of a recreational motor boat - the cost of diesel. The DSe's efficiency will make all the difference in the world when compared to other luxury yachts. Plus, she's ready for alternative fuels. The DSe's Steyr 'mono-block' engine runs equally well on bio-diesel [fuel]."

The trilogy of technologies deployed to power the luxury yacht are provided by Steyr Motors' Serial Hybrid Propulsion System, Outback Energy Solar's controllers and inverters, and Enersys' Odyssey Batteries. While the boat is anchored, enough solar energy can be produced to operate the boat's essentials sans running a fuel-consuming diesel generator. Designing the ship with adequate horizontal space to mount enough solar panels played a significant role in its development.

This nearly 40-foot long luxury watercraft is the most eco-friendly yacht of the lot. The introductory price of a DSe Hybrid 12m is $600,000; Island Pilot is currently taking orders. The first green yachts are expected to hit the water in early 2009.

Mothership Hooks Sports Fishing Lovers for EPYC

September 03, 2008

Luxury Sports Fishing News: The splash caused by the countdown to the launching of the East Pacific Yacht Club's mothership, the Pacific Provider, is creating a new wave in the waters of the affluent-living club community. Some may speculate that this is a travel/fractional membership club with a new twist, as memberships are limited and there is an initial charge along with a yearly fee. However, sage sports fishermen and lovers of yacht voyaging alike will view this outfit as the proverbial horse of a different color or one of those drummers who marches to their own beat. The club operates on a premise that delivers a promise that is nothing short of a heavenly experience for fishers, yachters, and those who just love being around water as much as an otter.

EPYC has put together a stupendous program that is tour de force. The concept is so intriguing that the company is going to be featured on an upcoming episode of CNBC's Wealth Channel, according to Rosy DeSimone, EPYC's director of member services.

"For the savvy sports fisherman who is used to traveling to far away destinations and fishing on a charter basis -- his greatest attraction is that the mothership is movable and can follow the fish," said Ms. DeSimone.

The Pacific Provider spent its first week down in Baja enduring Hurricane Norbert. Captain Rich did a live telecast with the Weather Channel during the middle of the storm. The ship fared very well, only one leaky window! They watched a 350 freighter wash ashore nearby! A few weeks later they provided tournament support for it's members at the Bisbee's Black and Blue tournament--which is the who's who of tournaments.

A Country Club Afloat

For members flying in to fish, the Pacific Provider is a luxury-latent flotel with a helicopter pad, two 35-foot game boats, and docking space for yachts. Other recreational watercrafts and diving gear also are onboard. Up to 12 guests can be accommodated in the six lavish suites situated on the main deck with space for up 8 additional guests in the overflow staterooms. Additionally, there is a dining room, a bar, and a Jacuzzi that holds eight most comfortably. A full range of exercise equipment is found in the gym on the lower deck.

Gastronomically speaking, a world-class chef plans and prepares all meals, and the wine cellar boasts a collection exceeding 600 bottles. However, it is being able be at the best fishing spot during its greatest moment that is reeling members in hook, line, and sinker. Complete boat services are offered as well for members who opt to cruise their own yacht.

Ms. DeSimone added, "For the guy with his own yacht, without question, the greatest attraction to our program is the delivery of support services when and where they are needed. Fueling privileges, food and provisioning, mechanical and engineering support are there if the range of the trip is expanded or if a member's ship needs repairs."

Magdalena Bay, Puerto Vallarta, Costa Rica, and Panama are a few of the destinations members will be sports fishing over the next year. Members receive up to 28 reserved days annually on the mothership, the Pacific Provider. A total of 50 memberships are available and being offered in three phases. The first phase is sold out. Membership requires a low six-figure membership fee along with an annual fee. The original membership fee is fully refundable.

EPYC in the Sports Fishing Community

The venerable seaworthy founders of East Pacific Yacht Club Tom Ellsworth and Capt. Rich Austin are highly regarded industry veterans with many years of experience in their respective fields of expertise. The firm is extremely active in sports fishing events and will be participating in the Avalon Billfish Classic (Sept. 7-9), the Riviera Zane Grey Invitational Marlin Tournament in Santa Catalina Island (Sept. 14-17), and the Mikelson Classic Marlin Tournament (Sept. 21-23). EPYC will serve as the events' start boat and tournament control for all four competitions at the Riviera Zane Grey Invitational. Additionally, EPYC will be the official start boat for the Bisbee Black and Blue Marlin Tournament in Cabo San Lucas in October.

There is an upcoming open house for the Pacific Provider in San Diego, and the official debut is September in Santa Catalina Islands. The mother lode of luxury motherships is now boarding! Visit the company's Web site at www.epyc.com.
