Finally, boating made affordable and hassle free
According to the National Marine Manufacturers Association, the average boater spends less than thirty days on the water per year, but they spend five times that amount cleaning, maintaining and repairing their boat. "That's five days of hassle for every one day of enjoyment," said Shane Smith, Director of Marketing for Fractional Yacht Management, a Florida based company that specializes in "getting the most out boat ownership."
In 2001, the company created SharedYachts.com and introduced two new concepts in boating: fractional ownership and fractional leasing.
"Fractional ownership has become popular in the corporate aviation industry" said Mark Casburn, CEO of Fractional Yacht Management. "So we thought 'why not apply it to boating and let many more people have the opportunity to own or lease a yacht without the hassle?'."
Their Fractional Ownership & Leasing Program offers the opportunity to purchase or lease equity in a yacht in 1/12th share increments. Each share guarantees the client 28 days of use of the yacht each year. SharedYachts.com manages the ownership details and provides complete management services. Fractional owners also have the option to lease back unused time to generate income.
SharedYachts current inventory includes cruising and fishing yachts ranging in size from 33 to 51 feet. Expansion plans include the addition of sailing yachts in the near future.

SharedYachts management services include scheduling, administration, maintenance, service, training and regular cleaning. Additional services include catering, transportation and captain's services. "If a customer wants to arrive at their yacht with it ready to go or if they want to hand us the keys when they are done and not worry about the details, we've got a program for them. They spend time on the water, we spend time on the dock."
