Why We Love Gucci

When you hear the name Gucci, words such as provocative, sexy and alluring come to mind. Not only is Gucci a well known player in luxury goods department, they have a long history of trendsetting and quality design.

What started in 1920, the Gucci house has became synonymous with extravagance while promoting a luxurious and sexy lifestyle. Although the reins have changed over the years, we can always count on Gucci to bring a provocative appeal to classic designs.

Did you Know:
  • Guccio Gucci (1881-1953) got his inspiration for fine leather goods from working in an exclusive Hotel in Italy, and being impressed by the luxurious luggage he saw sophisticated guests bringing to the hotel
  • Guccio started his first shop in 1920 in Florence, Italy
  • The Gucci Loafer is the only shoe in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in NY
  • Angelina Jolie is rumored to play Patrizia Reggiani who went to prison for the murder of her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci. Maurizio was the last family member to hold shares of the company.
  • Severin Wunderman who started and owned the Swiss luxury watch manufacture Corum, originally sold and licensed his designs to Gucci, putting designer watches on the map.
  • In the early 1930s Guccio became inspired by horse racing and implemented the look of horse stirrups into his designs. This has since become and iconic logo throughout Gucci designs.
  • During World War II the company made handbags of cotton canvas rather than leather due to material shortages.
  • Tom Ford was hired in 1990 to design a ready-to-wear line and a few years later he was promoted to Creative Director where he directed all aspects of the company...even the packaging.
  • Frida Giannini now holds the position of Created Director for Gucci
  • In the summer of 2010 Gucci launched a children's line
  • The Gucci house has a deep interest in automobiles and from time to time creates specialty editions. These editions often carry the bold red and green stripe upholstery, the brands emblems and often time, a full set of Gucci luggage in the trunk.
  • The Gucci brand has now become the Gucci Group which is a collection of other high fashion designers such as, Bottega Veneta, Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, and Alexander McQueen... to name a few.
