Fashion Designer Alexander McQueen Dies

News & Trends: British fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his apartment this morning. McQueen, who is best known for his flamboyant and often avant-garde style died at the age of 40.

The iconic fashion designer was pronounced dead on the scene as paramedics arrived to McQueen’s London home, in West End, shortly after 10 a.m. today. The cause of death has not yet been established, but police have stated that his death will not be treated as suspicious. Earlier reports by MSNBC.com speculate that McQueen’s death was an apparent suicide. A postmortem examination has been scheduled to help authorities determine cause of death.

The designer’s company has released a statement to the press saying: "On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family."

The unexpected death comes just days before the start of London Fashion Week and only a month before McQueen was expected to unveil his latest collection, McQ, at Paris Fashion Week.
