Ralph Lauren Takes on Paris

News & Trends: It's been a busy time for fashion designer Ralph Lauren, especially in Paris.

The American designer opened his brand new store in the fashion capital and was also awarded the French Legion of Honor.

The special event was attended by some of the world's top hob nobbers, including French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who presented the medal to Lauren for his contributions to the fashion industry, as well as Laura Bush and other world-renowned celebrities and stars.

The most notable guest of all was Hubert de Givenchy, the father of couture himself.

On meeting the great man, Lauren joked, "I had a stiff neck looking up so high," Ralph Lauren told WWD of his meeting with the retired couturier. "I admire his taste."
