Designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, the taffeta black dress was named too sexy for its strapless cleavage-baring neckline. Not only that, but the color black was to be worn by royals exclusively at funerals.
Elizabeth Emanuel, who has created the fabulously long-trained wedding gown Diana wore to her marriage to Prince Charles, reminisces on the black gown, " "The transformation was incredible. She arrived looking like the nursery school teacher she was, but now she looked like a movie star. We gave her the dress, made a little shawl to go with it so she could cover up on the night, and away she went."
Diana wore the famous gown, which was originally designed as a sample for a British actress, to her first official appearance after announcing her engagement to Prince Charles.
It sold at an auction Kerry Taylor Auctions in London with some of Diana's other photographable fashions.
