Temecula Valley's vintners invite wine lovers to get into the harvest spirit by voting in the region's first ever Charity Scarecrow Contest, which kicks off November 3-4 at the 22nd Annual Harvest Celebration Barrel Tasting Weekend. Sponsored by the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association, the contest inspires local wineries to get creative with bales of hay for a chance to win the $500 cash prize for their chosen non-profit organization.
Charities include the Susan G. Komen Foundation (IE), Michelle's Place and Our Nicolas Foundation.
Harvest Celebration attendees are encouraged to vote for their favorite scarecrow creation via the postcard provided in person or via email at info@temeculawines.org. Votes can also be cast by visiting Facebook at Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association and searching "Scarecrow Contest 2012." Voting will continue online through November. Voters will automatically be entered into a drawing to win four tickets to the World of Wine Event in March. Winner will be contacted via email by December 15, 2012.

Bel Vino:
Bel Vino will be serving lamb sliders and chocolate lava cake for both days. A variety of wines and bottle/case specials. We will also have live music on Sunday from 12-4 by Shoot 4 Tuezday.
Palumbo:
We are serving a "post harvest pork and hominy stew" Kind of a mash-up of my Italian heritage and SoCal upbringing that we make on cold days after harvest.
The wines are as follows:
2011 Viognier "Buon Vicino
Lush soft fruit and rich honeycomb nose with a lingering creaminess in this, our only white wine. This vintage gives all you expect from a classic dry white. Big fruit, rich mouth-feel and a crisp, dry finish.
2009 Syrah Clone 877
This Syrah is smooth, earthy with hints of spice and a beautiful light smoky finish to compliment the simplest dish. This classic Rhone style wine screams for cool fall evenings on the deck with friends, BBQ or stews.
