The Australia Week 2009, or "G'Day USA," will highlight Australian culture and the impact of its food, wine, artists, sports and fashion on American pop culture. The event will draw Australian celebrities, dignitaries, sports teams and a number of commercial and financial interests to Los Angeles and New York. The event's activities include the Black Tie Gala in LA on January 18th, and New York, Melbourne Australia CEO Golf Day, an Australian designer showcase, economic and environmental forums and a food and wine trade event. The gala honours celebrities for significant contributions in their industries and for excellence in promoting Australia within the United States.
An Australian style dinner will be crafted by Australian celebrity chef Luke Mangan and all food produce will be flown in from Australia for this glamorous occasion.
Honourees for 2009 are Eric Bana, Rachel Griffiths and Rod Laver.
Previous honourees include: Cate Blanchett, Baz Luhrmann, Anthony LaPaglia, Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Olivia Newton John, Hugh Jackman, INXS, Naomi Watts, Russell Crowe, Kylie Minogue and Phillip Noyce.
