Humphreys Concerts by the Bay

May thru Oct, 2011
Event Time: Various Times
San Diego, CA

AUGUST 11TH 8PM - JOAN BAEZ. The most accomplished interpretive folksinger of the 1960s, Joan Baez has influenced nearly every aspect of popular music in a career still going strong after more than 35 years. Baez is possessed of a once-in-a-lifetime soprano, which, since the late '50s, she has put in the service of folk and pop music as well as a variety of political causes. Her hits include "There But for Fortune," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and many many more. This will be her eighth appearance at Humphreys.

AUGUST 12TH 7:30PM - CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVISITED. As fans who have experienced a Creedence Clearwater Revisited concert can attest, Stu Cook and Doug "Cosmo" Clifford found the right players. Lead singer/rhythm guitar player John Tristao, a powerful tenor with the energy to power songs, initially rose to prominence as lead singer for the band People when their hit "I Love You" bulleted into the top ten. Lead guitarist Tal Morris has been described as "the quintessential Bay Area guitar prodigy" and his monstrous talent unleashed live is what a rock 'n' roll concert is all about. Talented multi-instrumentalist Steve Gunner rounds out the group. As Cosmo puts it, "Gun provides live all the overdubs that were on the records. He plays keyboard, acoustic guitar, percussion, harmonica and sings the high harmonies." With this new lineup, Stu and Cosmo and their band Creedence Clearwater Revisited add a new chapter to their legacy with vibrant and exhilarating energy and pure American spirit. Their double-live CD "Recollection," features passionate, authoritative versions of 22 classic hits and was certified as a platinum record by the RIAA in 2008. With special guests, San Diego's own Berkley Hart.

AUGUST 18TH 7:30PM - MEAT LOAF. Some people think big. Some people think huge. And then there's Meat Loaf. Meat Loaf will embark on a summer North American tour beginning in July in support of his star-studded forthcoming album Hang Cool Teddy Bear. For the past 35 years, the man born Marvin Lee Aday has been a towering monument on the musical landscape. His legendary 1977 album Bat Out Of Hell transformed this former high school football player, nightclub bouncer and stage actor into one of the great American rock 'n' roll icons. That record, with its staggering operatic sound and impassioned vocals, has sold more than 43 million albums worldwide - still one of the biggest-selling records ever. Now, more than 30 years after he exploded onto the world stage, Meat Loaf is back with a new record, Hang Cool Teddy Bear (a title taken from a line in the classic Russ Meyer trash movie Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls). From opener "Peace On Earth" to closer "Elvis In Vegas", its 13 tracks drag the classic Meat Loaf sound kicking and screaming into the 21st century. With special guest soulful rock chanteuse (and Meat Loaf's daughter) Pearl .

AUGUST 25TH 7:30PM - CHRIS ISAAK. Humphrey's favorite son returns for his 21st evening since first gracing our stage in 1994. Expect the usual mixture of pathos and humor from this creative giant and his band. "Wicked Game" may be his best-known song, however his latest release, and first new studio album in seven years, Mr. Lucky, has been described as a rocking Sinatra album for the 21st Century. "Mr. Lucky is a song cycle about the good luck we earn and the bad luck we just can't seen to shake".
