Set against the splendor of the Serengeti Plains and an evocative musical setting of African rhythms, this spectacular musical based on Disney's The Lion King is an amazing representation, which presents another facet of what theatre can really offer in terms of entertainment.
The story has been creatively readapted on the London stage by director Julie Taymor, producing an unforgettable musical unlike anything the West End has ever witnessed before. This adaptation of Disney's much treasured film carries audiences to a stunning world that bursts with glorious colors, dazzling effects and enchanting music. The dancing is superbly choreographed to include animal like movements as well as more tribal styles of dances. Background animals like the cheetah, gazelles, birds, elephant, rhino all move just as the real animals would, thus creating an enchanted world of animals.
The costumes are very ingeniously made, they represent both the animal and the human part; the stars are in fact humans who control these amazing animal-like costumes. Many are half puppet with moving limbs that are put into motion by the actors, and the effect is stunningly lifelike.
Though the Lion King is entertainment for all the family, it is not recommended for children of ages 7 and below. Four-year-olds will not be admitted to the theatre.
