The US Open takes place at the USTA National Tennis Center, more commonly known as Flushing Meadows, in New York City. One of the four Grand Slam tournaments in tennis, the US Open is the last such event of the season.
As a spectacle, the US Open has it all. Since its move to Flushing Meadows in 1978 the tournament has witnessed epic battles between the world's greatest players. The hard courts produce long energy-sapping rallies and the crowds are the most excitable and vociferous in the world.
If the noise of the crowd isn't enough, the sound of aircraft arriving and departing from JFK airport serves as an added reminder that this tournament is truly on the world stage. With the introduction of night matches in 1975, the tournament has become a unique event to rival the other Grand Slams in England, France and Australia.
