Rinnai-brand wall furnaces recalled
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of about 52,000 Japanese-made Rinnai-brand wall furnaces due to a safety hazard.
The CPSC said the recalled furnaces -- models RHFE 431 and RHFE 556 -- contain a gasket that can fail, possibly allowing carbon monoxide gas to leak into a home.
The importer of the furnaces, the Rinnai America Corp. of Peachtree City, Ga., said it received 11 reports of carbon monoxide leaking from the furnace.
The recalled furnaces are either natural gas or propane gas fueled and were sold from February 2000 through December 2007 for between $1,600 and $1,900.
Consumers can contact the company at 866-746-8344 to receive a free repair kit.
