Tipsarevic wins Zagreb first-rounder
Eighth-seeded Janko Tipsarevic breezed through his first-round match Monday at the $550,000 PBZ Zagreb Indoors tennis tournament in Croatia.
Tipsarevic had little trouble getting by Mischa Zverev 6-3, 6-1 to open the weeklong tournament.
In other matches Monday, Simone Bolelli stopped Rainer Schuettler 6-3, 6-2 and Stefan Koubek defeated Franko Skugor 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.
The tournament lost a seeded-player. No. 4 Fabrice Santoro withdrew 48 minutes into his match with Olivier Rochus, who was leading 6-3, 2-0.
Local favorite Ivan Ljubicic, ranked 25th in the world, is seeded first this week. He won the Zagreb event in 2006 and was second last year.
The 2008 Zagreb champion will earn $59,100.
