Nawaz Sharif to contest by-elections
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said he plans to run in the by-elections that would fill vacant Parliament seats from the general elections.
Sharif couldn't run in the Feb. 19 elections in Pakistan due to corruption and tax evasion charges.
Pakistan plans to have by-elections soon to fill unseated positions from the general election, CNN said Tuesday.
The CNN report says Sharif may seek the prime minister's office, though Pakistani law forbids him from doing so because he held the position for two non-consecutive terms prior to the 1999 coup that put Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in power.
