There is a plan in the works to build a 500-foot Las Vegas wheel on the Las Vegas strip, costing around 100 million dollars. It will be viewing wheel, built in the style of a Ferris wheel, like you would see at a fair. The wheel is all part of a larger project that will include a roller coaster and several restaurants.
There will be 40 gondolas on the wheel, each able to hold 25 passengers, that can be rented out for parties or other group events. Each of the bearings for the wheel will be supplied by the same German manufacturer that made bearings for the London eye. Although privately funded, this project should bring an immense amount of business to everyone in the area. The London Eye, a similar wheel, brings in around 3.5 million people each year.
The workers have started clearing the area needed to be cleared for the construction of the Skyvue Las Vegas Super Wheel. The hope is that the wheel will be open to the public by the year 2013.
