A Painting that Symbolizes French Republic Defaced by Woman at Louvre

Posted: Feb. 16th, 2013  |  By DailyLuxe News

A woman defaced a painting by Eugene Delacroix titled “Liberty Leading the People” with a black marker at an outpost of the Louvre gallery last week, Reuters reported.

The mark made on the painting by the woman with the black marker did not ruin it. Fortunately, the ink did not penetrate the upper layer of varnish on the painting.

Delacroix's "Liberty Leading the People" was painted after the 1830 July Revolution as a symbol of reconciliation following the overthrow of Bourbon King Charles X and the ascent to the throne of his cousin Louis-Philippe, Duke of Orleans.
