The price for a tablet-size computer is beginning to resemble its size. Computer manufacturer Acer plans to sell its new tablet model … the Iconia A 110 … for $99. The plan is to sell it in the emerging markets as well as in China's existing market, which sells non-name brands' units at the $99-price point.
It could be promising situation for Acer, having a marketing strategy that could result in success in one or more emerging market and an established one. This could only be a portion of the overall business plan.
The reports in from the Wall Street Journal and CNET indicate that Acer also will seek clearance from the Federal Communications Commission for use in the U.S. However, it is uncertain whether the $99 tablet will be available in the USA.
