Is anyone game for a long, long road trip?
CNN’s Light Years Blog reports that the radiation level found on Mars is not lethal to humans, according to information gathered from the Mars rover, Curiosity. However, it remains uncertain whether the total radiation caused by the conbination of a 16-to-18 month roundtrip and the visit on Mars conbined would be tolerable.
“Absolutely, astronauts can live in this environment,” said Don Hassler, Principal Investigator for the rover’s Radiation Assessment Detector, at a press conference Thursday.
