A collection of 10 dresses worn by Princess Diana sold for $1.2 million at auction in London, reports The Daily Beast.
Kerry Taylor Auctions, an auction house that specializes in the sale of vintage fashion coordinated the event. A dark-blue gown designed by Victor Edelsten, which the late princess of Wales wore at fete thrown at the White House in 1985, was the highest priced dress of the lot, selling at $360,000.
Princess Diana is pictured wearing that gown while disco dancing with actor John Travolta. An anonymous bidder purchased it as a gift for his wife to lift her spirits, according to Kerry Taylor.
Auctioneer Kerry Taylor said of the Edelstein gown: “It was bought by a British gentleman who said he wanted to buy it as a surprise to cheer up his wife. I hope that the sale has really made someone’s day.” She added that the new owner of the gown, which reached the top price of the sale, was a “lucky woman.”
