In the wake of the terrible tornado tragedies that have plagued the nation, some good news has come to light. A dog that was missing after April’s devastating Alabama tornado has crawled home on broken legs. His owners, who lost their home to the deadly storm, also thought they had lost their faithful companion, but faithful he was and he crawled home battered and broken. 2 1/2 weeks after the storm the owners of Mason, the terrier mix, returned to their home to go through debris and found him sitting on the porch waiting for them to come home.
Birmingham Jefferson County Animal Control shelter is now taking care of Mason, while his owners recover from the devastating storm, and one shelter worker said, "This is probably the most dramatic we've seen as far as an injury in an animal that's survived this long. It's kind of tapering off, the amount of animals we're seeing because of the storm. For an animal just to show up on someone's porch after this time was pretty remarkable, especially with the condition he's in.” Mason had surgery on May 20, and is “doing fantastic”.
