An auction held in Dubai that features automobile license plates has raised more than $6.8 million per a report from Arabian Business.
The Roads and Transport Authority, in Dubai, hold auctions that sell rare license plates and abandoned vehicles. In many cases, plates with either minimal characters or ones with characters of special meaning are the big sellers.
Dubai is not the only place where rare automobile license plates sell for astronomical prices. It also occurs in the United States, in Delaware, where vintage car plates sell for six figures.
The auction, which featured car number plates with as few as two digits, saw one plate (L16) went under the hammer for AED1.9m [$517k]. Plate N70 was sold for AED1.64m [$446k] while L55555 went for AED1.13m [$308k].
