Get a Laugh for Paying Attention

The FAA, in conjunction with the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), is asking passengers using air travel to put down the distractions and pay attention to the in flight safety standards. Many passengers are often reading or paying attention to media devices during the in flight safety presentation, but studies have shown that passengers who have listened to their safety tips have done better in the face of an emergency.

Many airlines are trying to engage passengers flying with them, by creating in flight safety presentations that are humorous or shocking, such as Air New Zealand’s "bare essentials" safety presentation, where the crew is wearing not much more than body paint and shoes. While these presentations are not meant to demean or take the significance away from in flight crew or the safety standards they are trying to instill, the essence of comedy is meant to be an effective way to get people involved in listening to air safety tips.
