Riding on the success of the first installment of The Hangover, The Hangover Part II has quickly become $86.5 million dollars worth of successful in its first weekend. The Hangover Part II has nearly doubled the numbers the original brought in, two years at $45 million its first weekend. In the four days since it hit the silver screen, the sequel to the enormous hit has earned $118.1 million. The original didn’t hit $100 million until its second weekend at the box office. This new Hangover is set to see the end of the Memorial Day weekend at around $140 million dollars.
This soaring number is helping Hollywood bring in a record amount of revenue over its Memorial Weekend, which also saw the opening of Kung Fu Panda 2 and The Tree of Life, starring Brad Pitt. Box office analysts believe that by the end of the holiday weekend, the industry should see $270 million dollars, which is an easy Memorial Day record breaker over 2007’s record holding $254.6 million in sales.
