How 2 First-time Out Entrepreneurs Became Online Media Moguls

Refinery29 is a media company built by two entrepreneurs with no experience in fashion and media that is expected to be valued at more than $100 million.

Philippe von Borries and Justin Stefano did not let their lack of experience prevent them seeing a need in a market and filling it. Their company, a content and ecommerce startup provides valuable content to mostly fashion companies and boutiques.

The interview provides insight and how the pair went from $28,000 per year workers to millionaires.

When you have no money, you get good at finding ways to make it. Stefano and von Borries were able to scrap together enough ad dollars through a partnership with Glam Media to pay themselves $28,000 per year for the first three years. Eventually they were able to secure a $160,000 investment to hire two part-time partners.
