December 30, 2013 | By: DailyLuxe News

From me time to we time, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that bathrooms in luxury residents are growing both in size and purposefulness. The new trend in master bathroom suites is more space and greater functionality.

A review of hundreds of upscale houses in Los Angeles and San Diego revealed that the master bathrooms take up as much as one-third of the total living space. The trend is no longer found exclusively in higher-price housing, it is also is showing up in floor plans across the board.

….A recent survey by the National Association of Home Builders found that 6% of buyers consider his-and-her baths essential, and 18% insist on a private toilet compartment. Is Chicago the 'Next Detroit'?

December 30, 2013 | By: DailyLuxe News

The Street is reporting that there is financial trouble looming in the Windy City. The finance-centric publication is advising investors to “steer clear of municipal bonds” due to its inability to manage costs efficiently.

The article focuses on the Second City’s inability to handle the city employees’ pension plan, citing that as-is it is not sustainable. Instead of addressing the situation, the methods being used to resolve the issue are only delaying the inevitable.

It is not an uncommon problem among municipalities, as other major cities are experiencing similar challenges that The Street essentially states is reducing the appeal out of municipal bonds as safe investments.

….The stability of the city's debt is in question, as Moody's recently downgraded it and rated Chicago as the worst of 29 cities

If there's doubt that the bond will be repaid, there is even less of a chance that the interest payments will be made to the holders of the debt.

Closing the Knowledge Gap between Rich & Poor Households Based on Vocabulary

December 29, 2013 | By: DailyLuxe News

A study conducted in the early 1990s revealed that the children from poor families hear 30 million less words than children from wealthy families by the time they reached the age of 3, NPR reports.

This word-gap disparity between the children from affluent and poor households could be a major reason why there is a measurable gap in intelligence between children from affluent, middle-class, and poor households.

A program called 30 Million Words has been developed to bridge this gap inn Chicago, which is supported by the University of Chicago Medicine and the Hemera Foundation. Its purpose is teach both parents and children how to introduce children to a broader vocabulary even before the formal education process begins.

…. [Program participant] Aneisha Newell says that program taught her to talk to her young daughter in new ways. She says she never realized bath time — with colors and shapes of bubbles and toys to describe — could be a teachable moment. She ended up breaking the program's record for the most words spoken.

Leadership: Hands Off Vs. Hands On

December 27, 2013 | By: DailyLuxe News

There comes a time for many of the best leaders in the business community to know when doing less will lead to achieving greater results for their enterprises.

Being the micromanager of all tasks may cause a boss to come up short in their most vital duty of all, being an effective leader. A recent post in the Harvard Business Review Blog Network, Doing Less, Leading More by Ed Batista stresses that value-driver concept with several on-the-job examples that reinforce how leaders need to focus more on being leaders and less on hands-on tasks.

….Continuing to rely on our abilities as individual contributors greatly limits what we actually contribute and puts us at a disadvantage to peers who are better able to mobilize and motivate others. In other words we need to do less and lead more.

Fragmented Fashion Statements from NBA Players

December 27, 2013 | By: DailyLuxe News

While you can lead millionaire athletes to high-end clothiers, it is no guarantee that they will dress well too.

Here is proof positive why the NBA needs a dress code for its players. These guys spend thousands of dollars from top to bottom and still end up dressing this way. Our top picks for worst dressers in the NBA are Russell Westbrook, Nick Young, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant. It was a tossup between Westbrook and Young. However, Westbrook appearing in two outfits that should have included floppy shoes and a handheld horn gave him the slight edge over Young.

The best-dressed players in the NBA, at least among those that appeared in this photo gallery presented by Yahoo Sports, are Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher, and Carmelo Anthony.

The Old School: Hottest Male Celebrities Over 50

December 18, 2013 | By: DailyLuxe News

Is 50 the new 30? Keep in mind that these are men that had it rough. They grew up in an era without remote controls, cell phones, cable TV, or the Internet.

Actor Brad Pitt is the hottest male celebrity over 50, according to a list released today by Praise Of Older Men: The 15 Hottest Male Celebrities Over 50.  While it is unlikely that comes as a big surprise , there may be a wrinkle or two that surfaces in the  14 others on the list.

Christopher Meloni,, Johnny Depp, Eric McCormack, and John Stamos round out the top five, with only Meloni, at 52, having a number greater than zero to the right of the big “5_.” Nine of the guys are at least 51 and older, with two being 60 or older.

“Oh My” George Takei, 76, made the list originally on an honorary basis. However,  he was officially included with an apostrophe after doing 100-push-ups on Conan the other night.

Car Dealer Pays $420k on Contest Due to Score of NFL Game

December 18, 2013 | By: DailyLuxe News

NY Giants Defeat Jet’s game plan by getting shutout 35-0 by the Seattle Seahawks!

While the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks are the talk of the town, a local car dealership, Jet Chevy, may wish that the team’s defense was not as impenetrable the Steel Curtain in its heyday.

Jet Chevy proclaimed that it would give a dozen fans $35,000 each if the Seattle Seahawks shutout the NY Giants on Sunday. Aided by Giants’ QB Eli Manning’s five interceptions, the Seahawks did it, winning 35-0.

The kick(er) is good!

However, the car dealer did buy an insurance policy to protect itself just in case the unlikely occurrence did happen. So, Jet Chevy had to shell out $7,000 to put its money and mouth on the same page.

Final Score:

Dealership $7K ... Insurance Co. $350K
