The announcement of the new 738-passenger cruise ship, the Seven Seas Explorer, by Regent Seven Seas Cruises is being hailed as a boon for the luxury-cruising companies.
Deluxe cruise lines are the industry’s leading moneymakers, as the highest demand for cruising vacations is coming from the luxury sector. The commercial cruise lines are pushing the envelope to increase amenities to sate the demand for personalized services and special-interests offerings.
It is a growing trend industry-wide, according to several top executives, such as Bill Smith, VP of cruise sales and exclusive developments for Virtuoso. Smith expressed his take on the state of the industry and its move toward more luxury offerings in an interview with Travel Agent Central magazine.
"As the luxury market is leading the cruise industry in the recovery we think the timing is perfect," he said, citing strong demand for luxury products and increasing yields in the luxury segment.
