Justluxe takes a look at the most expensive sports collectibles. These items are commodities these days. Auctions that feature memorabilia are attracting record-setting audiences and selling at astronomical prices.

Heritage Auctions, the third largest auction house in the worldwide, has several auctions yearly that feature sports collectibles. These events are among the auctioneer’s biggest sellers. It is no longer a market that draws sports fans only.

But read quickly, because this market is in a league of its own … and its pace is as rapid.

As one of the first five players to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, Honus Wagner was nicknamed "The Flying Dutchman" due to his speed and German heritage. Winning eight batting titles, Wagner is many historian's choice for the greatest shortstop, which makes it no surprise that a man paid $1.2 million for a Wagner 1909 baseball card that was auctioned by Goodwin & Co. in April 2012.
