A man from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jeffrey Gonanno, 25, paid $140 for the winning ticket of a raffle and won himself a million-dollar painting by Pablo Picasso on Wednesday, according to a report by the Pittsburgh Tribune.
Mr. Gonanno won Pablo Picasso’s 1914 work, L’Homme au Gibus (Man with Opera Hat) from the Spanish artist’s Cubist era. The proceeds from the raffle raised money to preserve the biblical city of Tyre in Lebanon. The winning ticket was purchased online from Sotheby’s auction house.
Gonanno has no plans to sell. He said that it is too expensive to hang in his living room, but that he may lend it to a museum rather than stashing it in a vault.
