Don’t mess with a marathon runner!
A man seen running out of drugstore clutching a bag of stolen merchandise was no challenge at all for fellow shopper and marathon runner Chris Read to run down.
Mr. Read, 47, heard the store manager shouting at the fleeing man, as he hastily ran out of the store and into the streets. The ensuing chase between Read and the alleged shoplifter lasted for about 1.5 miles.
Read informed the man that he would call the police and continue to chase him until the authorities arrived, if he did not relinquish the bag. The frustrated bandit ultimately threw the bag of goods at Brown and ran off. A police report was filed on the incident, reports The Northern Echo.
Chris Read, who has run in more than 100 marathons (26.2 miles), was confident that he could catch the man without risking injury to himself. The merchandise taken from the store was worth more than $375.
….The 47-year-old said: “I told him he could let me have the stuff back or I’d call the police and keep running after him. “He went a reasonable distance but when he stopped and looked back I said ‘we can do this all day’ so he threw the bag at me and I let him go.”
