ZDNet is reporting that Microsoft’s Messenger service will officially close on March 15.

Users of Messenger will be migrated to Skype, which Microsoft bought the firm in October 2011.  An email  announcing the switch over was sent out to 100 million users by the high-tech company. Microsoft is hopeful to complete the merger during the first quarter 2013.

The email was sent with the subject "Important info about your Messenger Account" and began by telling Messenger users, "It's time to update Messenger to Skype!"
