Examining 35 million photos on Flickr, Cornell researchers have discovered the most photographed places in the world. Researchers discovered that not only do people all shoot the same destinations; they shoot from many of the same angles. In essence, travelers are “voting” for the best vacation spots in the world.

Among the U.S. cities that made the list of most photographed landmarks are Portland, Oregon’s Pioneer Square, Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, and for those who can’t make it to the real Eiffel Tower, Las Vegas’ Paris Las Vegas Hotel. The number one most photographed place in the world, according to the Flickr study is New York City’s Empire State Building.

Photographers did offer a word of advice for the camera wielding tourists, who don’t want to shoot from the same angle as 35 million other photographers. The number one piece of advice, broaden your perspective. Gathering the same image from a new perspective can give an original look to the same old monument.
