The inaugural flight of the commercial spacecraft, Virgin Galactic SpaceShip Two, will be broadcast live by NBC, reports Reuters.
If all goes according to plan, August 2014 is when Sir Richard Branson, 68, and his adult children, Sam, 31, and Holly, 28, will board the craft for its initial flight into space. It will be akin to NASA takeoffs, as the program is scheduled to run for three hours. Two pilots and six passengers will be on the first flight. The pilots and other passengers are unknown at this time.
….Nearly 700 people, including actor Leonardo DiCaprio and physicist Stephen Hawking, have signed up for the flights, which will cost up to $250,000.
"I think most people in this world would love the chance to go to space if they could afford it and if we could guarantee them a return ticket," Branson said.
