The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam recently added a new piece by the Van Gogh more than 120 years subsequent to his death.
Sunset at Montmajour, a painting of a landscape of Aries, which is in the south of France, will become part of the Van Gogh At Work exhibition on Tuesday, September 24. That show is an exhibition of Van Gogh’s work. It is believed that Van Gogh completed the paining two years before his death in 1888.
The troubled artist committed suicide at the age of 37. The full story of this extraordinary discovery will be told in the October edition of fine arts publication, The Burlington Magazine.
"A discovery of this magnitude has never before occurred in the history of the Van Gogh Museum," the museum's director, Axel Ruger, said in a statement.
