Yuletide spirits will not be offered to Santa Claus this year in New York if the police department has its way.
The NYPD has put out an all-points bulletin of sorts to bars in all boroughs of New York City to not serve Santa Claus if he should enter their place of business. The unusual request was not made to keep Santa and his team of reindeer from flying the friendly skies while under the influence during the holiday season.
Actually, New York’s finest does not want the “Santa” crowd that is expected to attend the yearly SantaCon convention, dressed in full Santa Claus gear, to be in drunken stupors during their visit to the “City that Never Sleeps." The conference takes place on December 14.
USA Today reports that while there are more than 300 cities worldwide with Santa Claus conventions, the SantaCon gathering in New York City gets the most attention. Ho-ho-ho!
…. The [SantaCon organizer’s] website offers a code, encouraging good SantaCon behavior. The code states, "Santa spreads JOY. Not terror. Not vomit. Not trash. Would you want those under YOUR tree?" and "Santa stays safe. Santa does not drink more than Santa can handle. Doing so endangers Santa's self, Santa's friends, and the future of SantaCon."
