Next time I write a bad sentence, I am blaming it on the pencil.
Give the people what they want or else deal with their wrath. A statue of Pope John Paul by Italian sculptor Oliverio Rainaldi has been reworked to appease the public’s outcry toward the first rendering. And whose fault was it that the original version was botched? Rainaldi blamed the workers for his original vision not being achieved. Nice.
When the larger-than-life statue was first unveiled in May 2011, it was widely criticized by passers-by as looking more like Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini than the beloved Polish pope. The Vatican's own art critic wrote that it looked like a "bomb" had landed.
