Queen Latifah is single handedly trying to remove the words “plus sized” from the fashion industry’s vocabulary, saying that it doesn’t respect and honor a large section of fashion consumers. Latifah is the newest Home Shopping Network fashion celebrity, with her new line called “The Queen Collection”. Queen Latifah told Women’s World Daily, “[Plus-size] is a word we need to bury at this point.” Her new line, which will be launching August 27, and featuring apparel for under $100 is “for all sizes."
Queen Latifah, who has been a face of Covergirl, and is a woman of larger size, believes the fashion industry disrespects “larger girls”. "I felt the marketplace didn't respect us in the way it should,” she stated. “I was not going to step out with a clothing line that didn't respect a fuller-figured woman or a curvaceous woman, and really all women." Understanding that larger women want to wear the same styles as smaller women, she has designed clothing that is a size 2 and up.
