Sexy Lingerie Continues to Sell Despite Economic Woes

Despite the recession, there's still a never-ending procession of customers lining up to purchase high-end sexy lingerie, according to a story on CNBC.

Garry Hogarth, CEO of Agent Provocateur, a British luxury lingerie retailer, told CNBC that business is booming, and that the company plans to open five to seven additional stores this year. The UK market is an especially bright spot for the industry; Victoria’s Secret opened a location in London last summer. Meanwhile, U.S. sales of sexy lingerie are steady, and the market in China is exploding, with 23% growth expected this year.

Hogarth credits the popularity of the steamy novel Fifty Shades of Grey for boosting sales.

…."Years ago when it came out I was actually in Madison Avenue in our shop there and some women came in asking about Fifty Shades of Grey and I hadn't heard of it at the time. We're actually mentioned in the book…so we had these people coming in that had never heard of us…so it definitely has had an effect," he said.
