Spending by International Visitors to U.S. Increases

In a year-over-year comparison, foreign visitors spent more money during their visits to the United States in October 2012 than in October 2011, according to a report by Aviation News Today.

The U.S. Department of Commerce reported that international travelers spent $13.9 billion on travel and tourism-related activities the past October, which is an increase of $770 million over October 2011. From January to October 2012, overseas visitors spent $139.6 billion, which is approximately a 10-percent increase over the previous year.

During the same period, Americans spent nearly $99.1 billion abroad, resulting in a $40.5 billion balance of trade surplus for travel and tourism through the first 10 months of 2012.
