Start spreading the news … if all goes according to plan … the Statue of Liberty will be open by the Fourth of July, according to the National Park Service.

“Lady Liberty” has been closed due to the state of the infrastructure of the security system on Ellis Island caused by Hurricane Sandy, reports USA Today.  A report by the Associated Press stated that nearly three-quarters of the 12-acre Liberty Island was flooded.

Repairs to the docks needed to transport visitors to Liberty Island are being funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Lands Highways Program, as part of $28 million committed to roads and bridges in federal parks and recreation areas in New York and New Jersey damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
