OK—while private aviation companies are trying to fill seats due to a lull in business activity, but manufacturers of superyachts are aglow and claiming that demand for their ultra-luxurious hulls is up 69% over last year.
So, maybe the people ordering superyachts also possess their own private aircraft and do not need to charter anyone else’s plane. Perhaps we have just defined the difference between billionaires and millionaires.
The Guardian is reporting that that is the news from the Monaco Yacht Show is that demand is once again surging and billionaires are acting like billionaires again. The results of a survey of 138 companies in the big-yacht biz determined that one-half reported business is up; while only 19% indicated things were not as good as last year.
Things may get ever better, as one manufacturer indicated business was looking up, but it still is not as good as it was in 2007.
….The downturn slowed yacht buyers' appetite for extra-large yachts, with demand for vessels greater than 50 meters falling in 2011 and 2012, according to Camper & Nicholsons. But there are signs that it may be returning.
