Eight of the 10 towering structures are taller than 1,000 feet. Dubai and China’s third largest city, Guangzhou, appear on the list most often. The report from Wired cites the corollary between the big buildings and the booming economies.
Both the Middle East and China are experiencing record growth and it is reflective in the construction being raised in both areas. The information comes from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

It is interesting to look at the list if 2012's tallest new buildings and see where the architectural power exists today. The answer is a pretty even split between China and the Middle East. In fact, the tallest North American building completed comes in at 15 and it's the Trump Tower in Canada.
