Eighty-six of the top 100 richest individuals in the world showed an increase in their wealth in 2012.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the wealthiest people in the world combined added $241 billion to their collective fortunes at the end of 2012. The top 100 richest people worldwide are worth $1.9 trillion. The amount is an overall year-over-year increase of more than 14.5 percent.
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index is a daily ranking of the 100 richest people in the world. Spaniard Amanico Ortega, the founder of retailer Inditex SA, had the largest gain in wealth with an increase $22.2 billion. He is now worth $57.5 billion.
Warren Buffett, 82, lost his title as the world’s third- richest man to Ortega on August 6. The Berkshire Hathaway chairman gained $5.1 billion during the year, even after donating 22.3 million Berkshire Class B shares in July to charity.
