Information may soon be showing up on your windshield with more regularity than bugs bouncing off it. Augmented reality is the technology that could make directions, text messages, or notification of impending hazards pop up on the windshield. And this may happen sooner than later as various automakers are working on it.
The Wall Street Journal reports that GM and Daimler are working the bugs out of their systems now and other automakers are on it as well.
Augmented reality windshields are a natural extension for carmakers in their quest to one-up the competition for safety. Such windshields are likely to have simple graphics allowing drivers to see digital renditions of their surroundings, such as difficult-to-see road edges or animals, as well as drawing attention to erratic drivers.
