Certain works of art come to represent an era. Such a work is ?Les Noces? (The Wedding). First performed by the Ballets Russes in Paris in 1923, ?Les Noces? featured a score by Igor Stravinsky and choreography by Bronislava Nijinska. Their tale of a pagan Russian wedding, with Stravinsky?s devilish rhythms and Nijinska?s stark imagery, became a defining work of modernism.
