Here is a clutch that?s not to be missed. Oscar de la Renta calls the Clara a ?vanity case,? and I must admit: it does appeal to my sense of vanity! I have the electrifying Cara clutch in chartreuse, and it's a major attention-getter. It?s tough yet fragile, angular yet discreet. I love the look of baby-soft lambskin juxtaposed against hard metal edges ($1,795), especially with a true cherry on top: a semiprecious stone clasp that?s the perfect finisher.
It doesn't look like this petite box could fit much, but an iPhone interior pocket, plus a cash-and-credit card compartment is all one needs for a night out! I brought mine along on New Year's Eve, and it has quickly become a constant travel companion. I'm taking Clara to Milan next week for the Salone de Mobile (along with a loaner from the Oscar PR girls ? chartreuse with an ostrich-feather top).
The hand-embroidered beaded versions are fabulously luxe. I can?t decide which is more tempting: graphic Japanese Mako beads ($2,750) or lustrous semi-precious sequins ($2,495). Whichever texture strikes your fancy, all three have the Oscar touch. Mixing old-school glam with modern shapes is a skill only the Master of Beauty can pull off so well.
Available at Oscar de la Renta boutiques and online.
