Maricopa County has agreed to pay $45 million to settle a protracted legal dispute with three dozen hospitals and health-care providers over billing claims from emergency health care provided to low-income residents more than a decade ago.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors last week approved the settlement for thousands of disputed reimbursement claims, which have been hashed out in multiple lawsuits and binding arbitration since the 1990s.
