Torrent of water blasts Colorado River in artificial flood

A torrent of water was unleashed upon the Colorado River like a massive fire hose this week, in an effort to rebuild beaches along the Grand Canyon. The five-day artificial flood was meant to release not only water, but also silt and sand that had been blocked from moving downriver by the huge dam at Lake Powell ? the nation?s second highest.
